Originally discovered in Maine in the 1700s, Black Oxford is prized for its long keeping ability and dependable production. Its dramatic color makes it beautiful on the tree and distinctive in storage bins.
Harvest: Late season (October)
Best For: Fresh eating, baking, long storage
Pollination: Requires a compatible pollinator
Zones: 4–8
If you’re looking for a hardy heirloom with bold color and excellent storage quality, Black Oxford is a classic worth planting.
